Are you looking to start or advance your career in a surface coal or metalliferous mine? This course provides a blend of theoretical learning and practical, hands-on training, equipping you with the essential skills to work safely in the dynamic and potentially hazardous mining environment.  

This course meets the Standard 11 Mining Induction requirements mandated by the Queensland Mining Safety Inspectorate. Established as an industry standard in 2011, it ensures all mining employees meet the health, safety, and operational requirements necessary to work on mine sites in Queensland.

Course Delivery

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Course Durations

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 16 Hours

An individual undertaking this course with Allens Training Pty Ltd will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

  • Visual acuity to accurately interpret hand signals and flags
  • Hearing ability to recognise alarms and other auditory safety signals critical to maintaining safe operations
  • Physical and Psychological Capability: Students must be physically and mentally capable of performing the practical tasks required for this course. This includes safely responding to a local emergency or incident while wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Students must provide and wear protective footwear/safety shoes and comfortable, practical clothing during practical sessions and assessments.
  • Language, Literacy, and Numeracy Skills (LLN): Students must be able to:
    • Read and interpret documentation including legislation, regulations, workplace procedures and basic geological and survey data
    • Communicate clearly in English, including the correct usage of industry terminology
    • Complete workplace forms and reports.


Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

This certificate does not require renewal

Practical demonstrations: 

  • Seven (7) simulated scenarios including:
    • Complete a vehicle inspection
    • Respond to a local emergency/ incident on two (2) occasions
    • Complete a simulated risk assessment
    • Prepare for a site emergency 
    • Respond to an equipment fault 
    • Respond to a fire emergency

Documentation – 

  • Completion the following documentation:
  • Take 5 Hazard Identification Form
  • Vehicle Pre-Operation Checklist
  • Incident Report Form (x2)
  • Electrical Access Work Permit
  • JSEA/ SWMS
  • Pre-Operation Checklist
  • Equipment Fault Log

Theory assessment  A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions. All questions must be completed
